Thank you for visiting the world of Year 1 at Sussex Road. Please look through our class page to have a look at the fun we have been having!
This week in preparation for our Remembrance Day assembly, we have been making poppies using plastic bottles and tissue paper. We also had a class discussion about why it is important to remember those people who have fought and died in wars so that we can live in peace today.
Forest School Maths
Deepening Our Understanding
This term, we have take part in a variety of outdoor activities designed to help us secure our understanding of core Mathematical concepts.
We have been:
Topic: Animals Including Humans
This term we have been learning all about the parts of the human body, particularly the parts linked to our 5 senses.
To deepen our understanding of our 5 senses and how important they are in our everyday lives, we have been taking part in a
variety of practical investigations.
We have also created a whole body map to show we are able to label all the main parts of our bodies.
Learning about Money
In term 1, one of our areas of focus in Mathematics was learning about money - particularly coins up to 20p.
To do this, we created information posters about different coins. We also set up and ran different imaginary shops such as a toy and clothes shop. Through this role play, we learnt about using coins in everyday life.
The Great Fire of London
To demonstrate our understanding of what homes were like in the past and why the Great Fire of London was so 'Great', we have created model houses.
