WIDER EXPERIENCES
At Sussex Road Primary School, we are committed to ensuring all children have access to a broad range of enriching experiences that build cultural capital across their time at school. We recognise that cultural capital plays a vital role in closing attainment gaps by providing pupils with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed academically and socially. To achieve this, we offer a carefully planned programme of wider experiences. Experiences are not treated as optional extras but as essential components of our curriculum with the expectation that all of our children will engage. We actively remove financial and logistical barriers to ensure every child is included.
All enquiries will start with a hook, helping to close opportunity gaps and ensure all children, regardless of background, have the same experience to build their learning on and are equipped with the tools to succeed.

In addition to day trips, children in Years 5 and 6 will experience residential visits. In Year 5, we provide a 2 night stay at Bewl Water which provides a stepping stone to the Year 6 School Journey; 4 nights in Devon. These experiences are pivotal in developing independence and responsibility at an age when children should be confident to be away from home for a short period of time.

Hindleap Warren Residential - Year 5
Monday 16th March 2026 to Wednesday 18th March 2026
Children in Year 5 will travel to Hindleap Warren for a two night residential. They will experience a broad range of outdoor adventurous activities such as: abseiling, high ropes, orienteering, archery and bush craft. The relatively local stay away from home will ensure they have the confidence to enjoy their trip to Devon in Year 6.
The cost for the 2025-2026 trip is £250.00. Parents are invited to use a payment plan in Year 5.
School Journey - Year 6
Monday 1st June 2026 - Friday 5th June 2026
The 5 day residential trip provides our children to develop significantly as an independent individual whilst making some life time memories. We stay in a beautiful Georgian Manor House on the edge of Dartmoor with vast grounds for the children to explore. A range of different day trips not only enhance the learning that has taken place in school but also promote teamwork, resilience and risk-taking. The children will visit Bantham Beach, Canonteign Falls, Babbcombe Model Village, Crealy Water Park and River Dark County Park for a day of outdoor adventurous activities.
The cost for the 2025-2026 trip is £430.00. Parents are invited to use a payment plan in Year 6.
