Our Curriculum

Handwriting

At Sussex Road Primary School, we believe that handwriting is an essential skill for every child. Learning to write by hand is more than just forming letters—it helps develop fine motor skills, strengthens memory, and supports overall literacy. Handwriting encourages focus and creativity, and it gives children the confidence to express their ideas clearly and effectively.

In a world where technology plays a big role, we still value the importance of neat, legible handwriting. It remains a vital part of communication and learning. By teaching handwriting carefully and consistently, we help our pupils build strong foundations for success in all areas of their education.

In Year R, the children are taught to print their letters.  As the children progress through Years 1 and 2, they learn how to join their letters to write cursively.
