Thursday 30th April

Good morning Year 2

Let's go Thursday!

Word of the day: brigade

How many sounds does the word have? Use your magic fingers

What does it mean? Can you look it up in the dictionary?

What does it have to do with our enquiry?

Philosophical question: Would you rather be a bird or an aeroplane? Why?

Here is your timetable for today, remember we would love to see your work. Send photos or scans to

Suggested times

9 – 9:30

Joe Wicks PE starter for the day

9:30 – 10:30

  •  Complete the ‘Making patterns with shapes’ worksheet, looking at yesterday’s video and help sheet if you need some support.
  • Try the extension challenge of creating a shape pattern with turns in, and write a description of the pattern.

10:30 – 10:45

Get outside in the garden for a kick around, run around or a bit of fresh air.

10:45 – 11:10

  • We’re finishing off our -er and -est suffixes today
  • Have a go at adding the two suffixes just like we would for the word changers.
  • Read the sentences and add the correct word, with -er, with -est or without a suffix.

11:10 – 12:00

  • Think about the thoughts and feelings that someone in the London would have watching St Paul’s Cathedral and streets burning.
  • Write Samuel’s diary for Tuesday 4th September 1666 focusing on his thoughts and emotions.

12:00 – 1:00

Go outside for a bit of fresh air; run around in the sunshine!

1:00 – 1:30

  • Read or listen to Chapter 4 again. This time make notes on what happens.
  • Create a story map of what happens in Chapter 4.

1:30 – 2:30

  • Bouncing Investigation. Use a ball you have at home to find the bounciest surface at home. Is it your driveway? Is it the lounge floor? Is it the grass in the garden?
  • Make a prediction and then have a go!
  • Can you find out how high the ball bounces in each location using a tape measure?

2:30 – 3:00

  • Reading ‘Lucy in Lockdown’ and think about all the emotions she is feeling during this time at home.
  • How could she deal with her feelings and make them better?
  • Have a go at the activity at the end of the story to share how you felt today at home.

End of the day

Enjoy spending some down time with your family.
