Tuesday 12th January 2021

It was great to hear about all potions that you made last Friday on our Daily Zoom sessions. We hope you are enjoying The Potion Masters and listening to us read it. It certainly is an exciting story. As usual, we are always pleased to see work you have uploaded onto Tapestry.

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:  Reputable

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics.

Step 7: Area of Rectangles

This week, we’re moving away from Perimeter and looking at Area.

Work through the Tuesday 12th January – Maths Activity.

Be sure to watch the White Rose video below & linked in the activity sheet - this will help with your new learning!

10:30 - 10:45   BREAK!

Get outside and enjoy the Winter air! Can you create your own mini- fitness programme for outdoors? Try star jumps, running on the spot, keepy -uppies?.

10:45 - 11:15   SPaG

Practise your new spellings for the week. Can you learn them in a new way?  Try splitting them into syllables or sounds or think of a mnemonic to help you.

Look at your New Spellings sheet!

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing.

How would you describe Gordy?

Watch the video:

Listen to Chapter 1 again. Draw two pictures of Gordy with and without his Halloween costume/ spell on.

Think about his friendships and his determination to be a great potion maker. Brainstorm words to describe Gordy from what you have heard from the book.

Write 2 paragraphs describing:

  • What Gordy looks like with his Halloween spell/ costume on

  • Describing his personality and behaviour. Is he determined? How do you know? Make sure you use examples from the text

Remember to add relative clauses and expanded noun phrases!

12:15 - 12:30   Class/Own Book.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH!

1:30 - 2:00   Reading Activity.

Read and just complete the Metals Sentence and Word sections

Make sure you look up any new words.

Keep any sheets for tomorrow!

2:00 - 3:20   Computing Focus:

Today you are becoming evaluators. In order for us to be able to design our own webpage, we must understand what the key features are, which websites are easiest to navigate, how to make a webpage look aesthetically pleasing and how to engage the reader. In order for us to do this, we must explore! Time to get stuck in...

Philosophical Question to finish the day!

Yesterday's Q:  What one thing would you add to a bike to make it even better?

Miss Martin:  I'd have rocket boosters so that if I become tired and I no longer have any energy, I have something that can race me all the way back home... And maybe a little cooler in the basket so I can have a cooled beverage after a long ride!

Miss Chapman: Like Chitty Bang Bang, the ability to adapt to any situation with the addition of a mattress popping out each time I fall off! Failing that, a button which takes you back home when you are tired! I often find I cycle and forget how far I have gone and have to do it all again to get back!!

Mrs. Hudson: Well I have already adapted my bike by getting an extra soft gel saddle. In reality it is like an armchair!

Today's Question:  What is the most important design feature of a winter boot?

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses :-)
